Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) has become one of the most widespread occupational health problems. CTS affects millions of people every year and with our growing dependency on computers, along with occupations requiring fragmented work tasks, more and more people are affected with this musculoskeletal disorder each year.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is an entrapment median neuropathy that causes wrist pain, numbness, tingling and/or grip strength weakness. The entrapment or pressure on the median nerve is located at the carpal tunnel region of the wrist and is usually due to chronic overuse of the wrist due to work or recreational activity. Compression of the median nerve typically occurs at the wrist, but may also occur at the neck or shoulders, known as Double Crush Syndrome. Evaluating and diagnosing specifically where the location(s) of nerve compression is occurring is essential to treating and resolving chronic wrist pain and CTS. Our doctors have extensive knowledge in not only treating the condition but also evaluating where the pain is coming from.

At Ostir Physical Medicine, our doctors utilize several different types of therapy for the treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. In addition to medical pain management, our rehabilitation professionals use manual therapy (massage, wrist traction, and chiropractic), carpal tunnel injections, wrist bracing and cold laser therapy. ML830 Cold Laser is the only FDA cleared laser for the treatment CTS. This therapy is proven effective in lowering inflammation and swelling within the wrist while enhancing cellular metabolism, which effectively reduces pain and speeds recovery.
